Stepping Stones to Recovery
Published in Paperback by Glen Abbey Books (January, 1900)

Fantastic!I LOVE this book! This is, without a doubt, the best best book that I have come across in my 18 mos (and counting!) of recovery. The 12 Step Principles are explained through a collection of writings - I especially love the Acceptance section. Numerous prayers (spiritual - - NOT religious), slogans and AA antidotes (The 12 Steps to Destruction)are included as are classic essays on acceptance, spirituality, meditation, serenity, fellowship, surrender, etc... A "must have" - especially for newcomers!

Stepping Stones: The Pilgrims' Own Story
Published in Hardcover by Binford & Mort Pub (May, 2001)

Voices From America's PastIf you're looking for history: this is it, in its purest form. Out of America's past, the Mayflower "Adventurers" of 1620 speak in their own words - of ordeals and triumphs, of struggles and settlement and profound religious faith. Their memories are sometimes haunting . . "they saw the grim face of poverty coming upon them like an armed man"; their stories exciting . . "about midnight we heard a great and hideous cry, and our sentinel said, "Arm, Arm"; their words inspiring . . "you have been instruments to break the ice for others who come after with less difficulty, the honor shall be yours to the world's end."
The "honor" is certainly theirs in this American literary treasure of Pilgrim documents. Riveting. Hard to put down. Adelia and Robert Notson's compilation is a book that belongs in the library of all who cherish freedom and who admire those individuals of the past who sacrificed comfort and ease for the sake of freedom. It gives us hope that we too can overcome the struggles and hardships with which we are faced, even in the 21st. century.

Sticks & Stones (New Crafts Series)
Published in Hardcover by Lorenz Books (26 July, 1999)

Sticks and StonesI would buy this book for the photography alone. However, the projects are set forth in a clear and understandable manner. I was especially glad to have the materials translated from British to American. Even so, I have had difficulty finding epoxy putty. Brand names would be so helpful. Many of the natural materials used are not available here in deep south Texas, but I find that the techniques presented can be applied to our local flora. After all, mesquite is every bit as twisty as alder. An inspiring book, and the results are NOT tacky.

The 29th century's contribution to the HumanitiesToward the end of the college course "Introduction to the Humanities", Louis Mumford's book "Sticks and Stones" appeared on the reading required list. It was our introduction to the world of modern architecture, to Frank Lloyd Wright and other glorious makers of modern architecture. Tonight on Public Television he appeared to comment on the Brooklyn Bridge. It has been 66 years since I heard his name, but his comments are timeless. The book "Sticks and Stones" is not only a tribute to modern architecture, but also a historical landmark in the development of architecture.

Sticks and Stones (Orca Soundings)
Published in Paperback by Orca Book Publishers (May, 2002)

Realistic portrayal of teen [physical] harassmentJujube becomes the target of a vicuous gossip and bathroom wall grafitti when her dance date doesn't deny the rumor that she slept with him on the their first date. Refusing to become a victim, she uses her class assignment on Ways We Communicate to fight an administration that refuses to take the matter seriously.
Sticks and Stones is part of Orca's Soundings series. Written by award winning Canadian authors, the short themetic novels are designed for classroom use with special appeal for the reluctant reader. Large print type and simply constructed sentences combine with a flashy neon title and striking color photograph to hook. Characterization is a bit flat, perhaps because of the brevity of the novels, but the plot is strong (if not complex) in both novels. Sticks and Stones has a sympathetic character and universal theme. Based on real life events, are ideal for discussion and could even create a neat segway into current events. Highly recommended.

Good StuffThe book isn't extremely long, but I really enjoyed it. I read it sometime last year. It's about this girl who is flamed by this guy who she didn't want to go far with. Suddenly her world is turned around, and everyone is calling her names behind her back and to her face, and she has a reputation as a slut. Out of anger I suppose the buy (who's name I forget) lashed out and and told everyone they had sex or something, and she soon gained a reputation as a slut. Sticks and Stones may sounds like an average teen novel, but it's definetly not Sweet Valley High. Beth Goobie writes in such a way that you forget you're reading a book....I recommend this completely. (Of course she's a local author so I haven't the slightest clue on how many people have read this.) I also encourage you to read some of her other books, Before Wings, Kicked out and The Colors of Carol Molev.

Best book ever for children who sometimes get bored!I raised three children with this book and used it more often than Dr. Spock's. The recipes are easy and fun and the crafts were simple, clever and easy for moms and kids. My children were crazy about it and pulled it out anytime there was "nothing to do." In over ten years of use, it never let us down. My copy is old now and totally worn out so I'm glad to see it's still around. I want a new one for my grandaughter!

Buy my book, pleaseI would love it if you bought this book. I'd like it even more if you enjoyed it, and I think you might. You might laugh out loud. You might get nervous at times, especially if you're the least bit claustrophobic. You might learn a bit about academe, Edmonton, feminism, misogyny, and great Christmas tips.
